Standing Seam
Raised interlocking seams run vertically from ridge to eave. The fasteners are hidden under the seam, so there are no exposed penetrations through the panel face.
- Best for houses, cabins and commercial buildings
- Manufacturer finish warranties on PVDF coatings run to 35 years and beyond — see the manufacturer’s own document
- Panel assemblies are tested for wind uplift under UL 580 and ASTM E1592
5-Rib Ag Panel
Exposed-fastener metal, screwed through the panel into the framing. The classic barn roof, and still the quickest way to cover a large area in steel.
- Best for barns, pole buildings, shops, sheds and carports
- The most affordable metal option we install
- Gaskets and fasteners need periodic inspection — budget for that
Architectural Shingles
Multi-layer dimensional shingles that read as depth and shadow from the street. The default choice for most re-roofs.
- Best for primary residences and complex roof shapes
- Published wind coverage depends on the nailing pattern — six nails and a starter strip where the manufacturer requires it
- Wide colour selection
3-Tab Shingles
Flat, uniform asphalt shingles. Lighter, simpler and cheaper than architectural, with a shorter design life.
- Best for rental property and straightforward replacements
- Easy to repair a small area
- Lower published wind class than architectural in most product lines

A much longer service life
The Metal Construction Association’s field study of standing seam systems reports an expected service life in excess of 60 years. The NRCA notes most new roofs are designed for roughly 20 years of useful service.
Tested for uplift
Metal panel assemblies are tested for wind uplift under UL 580, UL 1897, ASTM E1592 and FM 4471. Ask any roofer for the tested assembly, not a headline number.
Cooler in summer
The DOE and Oak Ridge National Laboratory Roof Savings Calculator models roughly 10–25% cooling savings for reflective roofing in climate zones 1–3. North Carolina sits at the cooler edge of that range.
Recyclable at the end
The Metal Roofing Alliance reports metal roofing is 100% recyclable with a minimum 25% recycled content. Asphalt shingle scrap runs to roughly 11 million tons a year in the US, per ARMA.
